Features of Short Term Medical Insurance

This page presents a brief description of the features that make short term medical insurance such a popular and flexible type of  protection. For specifics, see the details on each product page.

Freedom of Choice - All short term medical insurance is designed to offer simple and flexible coverage with any doctor or hospital of your choice - regardless of where you may move or travel.

Low Cost - Cost is minimized by cutting out the extras that you are not likely to need on a short term basis. (If you have ongoing claims due to pre-existing medical conditions then this coverage is not for you). Short term medical does not provide preventative coverage or maternity coverage, except as required by law. What's left is strong coverage for the big medical risks.

Maximum Coverage - These policies cover at least $1 million of medical care, so it is unlikely that anyone would exceed the policy limits.

Deductible - There is a deductible for each person covered under the policy. You choose the deductible that best matches your budget. Of course the higher the deductible the lower the premium. Most people opt for a $500 OR $1000 deductible. In the event that more than three members of your family incur expenses, only the firs three incur a deductible.

Co-insurance - You could pay up to $1,000 co-insurance unless your doctor or hospital agrees to accept the insurance as full payment. Remember that since this insurance covers all doctors and hospitals, there is no pre-set contracted amount that serves as the cost basis of your service. The insurance pays the prevailing rate and we find that most medical providers are willing to accept this amount as full payment.
